✨ Appointments: Require payment in the Parent Portal - 05/07/26

❓ What is changing?

You can now require payment for appointment bookings made through the Parent Portal.

New payment settings are available in Appointment Types, allowing you to control whether payment is required for:

  • The first upcoming appointment booking in a series, or
  • All appointment recurrences added to the cart

Appointment bookings are now added to the Parent Portal shopping cart, where fees, validations, and payment collection are handled during checkout.

💡 Why did Jackrabbit make this change?

Previously, appointment bookings in the Parent Portal did not support cart-based payments, often requiring manual follow-up and workarounds to collect fees.

This update gives you more control over how appointment fees are collected, helps secure revenue at the time of booking, and creates a more streamlined checkout experience for families.

🛠️ What do I need to do?

  1. Open an Appointment Type (create new or edit existing).
  2. Go to Step 3 - Fees and enable Payment Due at Portal Booking.
  3. Choose whether payment is required for:
    • The first booking only, or
    • All bookings in the series

Families will complete payment during Parent Portal checkout.

ℹ️ Helpful Info

  • Appointment fees now appear in the shopping cart summary during checkout.
  • Appointment bookings are included on printed and emailed receipts.
  • If payment is only required for the first upcoming appointment in a series, later bookings in that series will not require payment at checkout
