Revenue Summary and Fee Summary - report differences

Objective

Understand why the Revenue Summary and Fee Summary reports may not match.

Solution

The Revenue Summary and Fee Summary reports use different date logic and are designed to answer different financial questions.

Revenue Summary

  • Uses the Paid Date range
  • Reports on payments collected during the selected date range
  • Includes fees associated with those payments

Fee Summary

  • Uses the Transaction Date range
  • Reports on fees posted during the selected date range
  • Includes payments associated with those fees, regardless of when the payment was made
Because the reports use different date ranges, the same fee and payment may appear in different reporting periods.

For example, if a payment is collected on January 31st for a fee posted on February 1st:
  • The payment is included in the January Revenue Summary
  • The fee is included in the February Fee Summary
As a result, the Revenue Summary reports are not expected to match and should not be reconciled against one another.
