Charitable Donations - An Overview

The Charitable Donations feature allows your organization to collect voluntary donations from families through the Parent Portal on behalf of a charitable organization.

You configure donation amounts, families contribute through the Parent Portal, and Jackrabbit records each donation so you can report on the funds collected before remitting them to the selected charity.

🚀 Get started with Charitable Donations

  • Confirm your organization is set up to process ePayments, since donations require immediate credit card payment in the Parent Portal.

  • Identify the charity you want to support, along with its tax identification number and any details you want families to see.

  • Enable Accept charitable donations in your Parent Portal Settings.

  • Decide on the donation amounts you want to offer. You can create as many as you like, and each becomes its own giving option for families.

  • Know that only one charity can be collected for in the Parent Portal at a time, even though you can offer multiple donation amounts.

  • Understand that accepting donations may carry legal or tax implications worth reviewing with an accountant or attorney before launch.

📋 How Charitable Donations work

  • To get started, you'll add the charity as a Store Vendor and mark it as a charity - that's what makes it available to select as your active giving campaign.

  • Donation amounts are created as Store Items tied to that charity vendor, using a reserved category that keeps them separate from regular store merchandise.

  • Turning on donations and selecting a charity adds a 🖤Give option to the Parent Portal, where families choose an amount and pay immediately by credit card.

  • Each donation shows up in the family's transaction history, and you can send them a receipt for their records - just like any other payment.

  • Revenue reports identify and total donations separately from other revenue, so your organization can see how much has been collected and send funds to the charity whenever it's convenient.

  • Switching to a different charity simply means adding a new Store Vendor and selecting it in your Portal Settings. Your organization decides when and how often to change causes.
