Time Clock - Time entry methods

Objective

Review the available time entry methods to understand how each records staff time and which workflow each method supports.

Solution

The Time Clock offers three methods for recording staff work hours: Clock In/Out, Manual In/Out, and Total Hours. Each method supports a different workflow and is designed for different time tracking needs.

Clock In/Out

Use this method when staff should record their work time as it happens.

  • Staff select Clock In when they begin working and Clock Out when they finish.
  • The Time Clock automatically calculates the total hours worked from the recorded times.
  • Staff who can split time between departments or locations can allocate their hours after clocking out.

Best for: Staff who work scheduled shifts and should clock in and out in real time.

Manual In/Out

Use this method when staff need to enter their start and end times manually.

  • Staff enter their Time In and Time Out for each work period.
  • Multiple entries can be added for the same day, such as when working in different departments or taking an unpaid lunch.
  • Time can be entered after the date worked, even after the pay period has closed.

Best for: Staff who know their working hours but don't need to clock in and out in real time.

Total Hours

Use this method when staff only need to report the number of hours worked.

  • Staff enter the total hours worked for the day instead of start and end times.
  • Multiple entries can be added for the same day when hours need to be assigned to different departments or locations.
  • Time can be entered after the date worked, even after the pay period has closed.

Best for: Staff who only need to report the total hours worked each day.
